Líofa's Gaeltacht Bursaries give 100 people of various ages the opportunity to attend Irish language classes during the summer. The classes take place at a range of locations across Donegal.

The bursary scheme is aimed at those who might not otherwise have had the chance to go to a Gaeltacht, and is open to people of all traditions and backgrounds.

The best way to learn any language is to immerse yourself in it. The Gaeltacht summer schools allow students to be part of a community of Irish speakers. They combine classes and camaraderie in what is an enriching experience for anyone learning Irish. It offers the chance to meet fellow learners, hear about their journeys and make new friends.

As learners of the Irish language ourselves, we at Líofa recognise how spending time in a Gaeltacht – speaking and hearing Irish both every day, and in everyday situations – can have fantastic benefits. However, I recognise it can also be a financial burden, and that is what this bursary scheme aims to address.

While it has only been running for a few years, we have seen increasing demand for the bursary scheme. It is open to those who are signed up to Líofa. “I wish all those attending the Gaeltacht courses all the best with their studies both this coming summer and beyond.
